Greenville Convention Center: website, search, Google Business Profile & social audit

An honest look at greenvilleconventioncenter.com from the team that hosts it. The venue's reputation is strong and the calendar is full through 2027 — the website has simply not kept up with the building. Here is what is working, what we found, and a 90-day plan.

Prepared for Rhesa Tucker, President & CEOcc Delaina Rogers, Social Media & Sales ManagerSite reviewed greenvilleconventioncenter.comStatus Live and healthy — no outages or security issues found

Snapshot

Scored 1–5. The building, the events and the reviews are 5/5 — this is a scorecard for the digital front door only.

2/5
Website
Live, responsive, calendar maintained — but core copy unchanged since Sept 2024 and still says "newly renovated" about 2016 work.
2/5
SEO
Generic title tags, three H1s on the homepage, no schema, no content for weddings or trade shows.
3/5
Google Business Profile
≈930 reviews at ≈4.5 is excellent; category, hours and NAP consistency need confirming and there is no visible response program.
2/5
Social
Facebook is active (305 reviews); Instagram exists but is not linked from the site; footer still promotes Twitter; no LinkedIn found.
1/5
Tracking
No GA4, Tag Manager or pixel detected (to confirm). RFP submissions are not measured anywhere except the form's own "how did you hear about us" box.

What is working

We lead with this because it is the asset everything else should be built on.

≈930 Google reviews at ≈4.5 (Birdeye aggregate, plus 305 Facebook reviews) — remarkable volume for a venue; most competitors in Eastern NC have a fraction of this. Direct Google count to confirm.
Tripadvisor #3 of 52 things to do in Greenville (4.1/5, 70 reviews).
The events calendar is genuinely maintained — bookings listed through April 2027: Dinosaur Adventure (Sept 2–8), S&D Gun Show (Sept 25–27), Reptile Expo (Oct 3) and multiple weddings in September alone.
Real news the site never mentions: Rhesa's Good Company Tourism Partner Award from Visit Greenville NC (May 6, 2025); Geek-tacular 2026 as the largest yet with 75 vendors (WITN, April 26, 2026); regular WITN/WNCT coverage.
Fundamentals in place: WordPress with The Events Calendar, responsive viewport, decent homepage meta description (91,000 sq ft, largest in the region), CleanTalk spam protection on both forms, an interactive floor-plan tool.
Hosting is healthy. The site returned normally on every page we checked; no malware, redirects or error pages.

Website findings

Severity reflects impact on bookings, not technical purity.

High

Marketing copy has not changed in two years and still says "newly renovated"

Homepage and About last-modified metadata is September 16, 2024. The "newly renovated" language refers to the $4.5M renovation that broke ground in 2016. Planners reading it in 2026 will assume the site — and possibly the venue — is unattended.

Fix: rewrite the homepage, About and venue pages around what the venue is today (91,000+ sq ft, 36 breakout rooms, 32-acre campus with 412 hotel rooms, 330+ event days a year) and add a News & Press section so the award and TV coverage live on your own domain.
High

RFP and contact forms go to email only — no CRM, no follow-up tracking

The RFP form is thorough (company, event type, layout, AV, hall configuration, file upload, referral source) but nothing sits behind it. Response time, source and win rate cannot be reported.

Fix: keep the form, add conversion tracking now, and route submissions into a pipeline (see "What BICS adds"). Add a short "check a date" enquiry path for planners who are not ready for a full RFP.
Medium

Catering page links a 2023 Hilton menu PDF

Stale collateral on a page wedding and gala prospects read closely.

Fix: request the current Hilton Greenville menu, publish it as an HTML page with a downloadable PDF, and diarise a yearly refresh.
Medium

Dated three-path layout (Plan / Exhibit / Attend); no blog, news or press section

The photo gallery is the only content-rich area. There is nowhere to publish the weekly stream of events, wins and coverage.

Fix: a focused redesign on the existing WordPress build: audience paths by event type (Conventions · Trade & consumer shows · Weddings & galas · Meetings) plus a News hub.
Medium

Footer links Facebook and Twitter only — Instagram is missing

An Instagram account exists (greenvilleconventioncenter) and is where wedding and gala prospects look first.

Fix: link Instagram and Facebook; retire the Twitter link unless the account is active.
Low

No JSON-LD structured data; only basic Open Graph and Twitter meta

Covered under SEO below — noted here because it is a template-level fix.

Fix: add EventVenue / LocalBusiness schema in the theme and Event schema from The Events Calendar.
To confirm

No analytics or tracking tags detected

We could not pull raw page source from our review environment, so this is a strong indication rather than proof. If GA4 is installed, we will verify events on the RFP and contact forms instead.

Fix: Google Tag Manager, GA4, form-submission and click-to-call conversions, plus Google Ads and Meta tags ready for later campaigns.
Low

Third-party listings disagree with the site

Square footage appears as 91,000 in some listings and 95,000 in others; one Visit Greenville NC listing shows the CVB's own phone and address in place of the venue's.

Fix: a single NAP and facts sheet, then correct the CVB, Chamber, Cvent, Birdeye and Tripadvisor listings.

SEO findings

High

Generic title tags

"Home - Greenville Convention Center", "CONTACT US - Greenville Convention Center". No page targets "Greenville NC event venue", "Eastern NC convention center", "wedding venue Greenville NC" or "trade show space eastern NC".

Fix: keyword-led titles and unique meta descriptions on every page; inner pages currently appear to rely on defaults.
High

Wedding and social-event content is thin

The Emerald Room's indoor/outdoor ballroom and 2,500 sq ft terrace are a real differentiator, yet there is almost no dedicated copy — while WeddingWire shows 3 reviews, the last from 2016, and the calendar shows four or more weddings in September 2026 alone.

Fix: dedicated Weddings, Galas & Banquets and Terrace pages with galleries, capacities and a catering link; refresh WeddingWire / The Knot profiles and ask recent couples for reviews.
Medium

Multiple H1s on the homepage

"WELCOME TO…", "Eastern North Carolina's Largest…" and "EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITIES" all render as H1.

Fix: one H1 per page; heading hierarchy tidied during the copy refresh.
Medium

No structured data despite a rich events calendar

Every listed event is a candidate for Google event rich results; the venue page is a candidate for EventVenue / LocalBusiness panels.

Fix: enable schema output in The Events Calendar and add venue schema at template level.
Medium

Thin auto-generated calendar pages

An estimated 40–80 indexed URLs, many of them month-archive pages with little content. Exact count to confirm in Search Console.

Fix: noindex month archives, keep individual event pages, submit a clean XML sitemap.
Low

No blog, press page or content marketing

Local TV coverage (WITN, WNCT) and the 2025 tourism award all live on other people's domains.

Fix: a monthly "On campus" post and a press page — two links a month from local media is a real local-SEO signal.

Google Business Profile

The strongest digital asset the venue has — and the least worked.

ItemWhat we found
Rating≈4.5 (Birdeye aggregate of 930 Google + 305 Facebook reviews). Direct Google rating to confirm.
Reviews≈930 on Google; 305 on Facebook; 70 on Tripadvisor (4.1); 3 on WeddingWire (4.7, last in January 2016).
CategoriesChamber lists "Banquet Facilities"; Birdeye mislabels the venue "Community & Social Services". Primary GBP category to confirm — should be Convention center, with Banquet hall, Event venue and Wedding venue secondary.
HoursTripadvisor shows "by appointment / Mon 8–4:45"; consistency with GBP to check.
RecencyTripadvisor last review December 2024 (a complaint about vendor communication); Google recency unverified. No visible owner responses.
GapsNo response program, no posts, no Q&A seeding, no products/services, no UTM-tagged links, wedding segment invisible on WeddingWire.

Enhancements we would make

  • Review responses: reply to every review within 48 hours; reply to the December 2024 vendor-communication complaint specifically.
  • Weekly GBP posts from the calendar: this week's shows, a wedding gallery, "book the Emerald Room for spring".
  • Services list: Conventions, Trade & consumer shows, Weddings & galas, Meetings & seminars, Concerts, In-house catering by Hilton Greenville, Free parking, On-campus hotels.
  • Q&A seeded with the ten questions planners ask: capacity, load-in dock, parking, hotel blocks, AV, catering exclusivity, outdoor terrace, alcohol, accessibility, RFP turnaround.
  • Photos: 30 current images by space (Exhibit Hall set for a show, Emerald Room set for a wedding, a breakout room, the terrace at dusk, the campus from Greenville Blvd).
  • UTM-tagged website, RFP and appointment links so GBP traffic is visible in GA4.
  • Review generation: a post-event email and QR card for exhibitors, planners and couples; refresh WeddingWire and The Knot at the same time.

Social

Facebook (gccevents) appears active — 305 reviews suggests a real audience. Instagram (greenvilleconventioncenter) exists but is not linked from the site. No LinkedIn company page was found. Posting cadence and follower counts could not be verified from our environment.

Reviews

"930 Google reviews and counting. Exhibited, planned or celebrated with us? Two minutes on Google helps the next planner find Greenville, NC — not the other one."

Paid search starter concept

Illustrative structure — no spend or traffic numbers are implied. Geo: Eastern North Carolina (Pitt, Beaufort, Craven, Wilson, Nash, Lenoir, Wayne counties) plus Raleigh–Durham and Norfolk–Virginia Beach for association and trade-show terms; exclude "Greenville SC" as a negative everywhere.

What BICS adds

Once the forms are tracked, BI Consulting Services — Evolve's sister analytics firm and a Microsoft Partner — can route every RFP into a pipeline, join it with The Events Calendar and the Hilton catering figures, and give Rhesa and Sarah one Power BI view of hall utilisation, lead source, RFP-to-contract rate, revenue per event day and hotel room nights — the economic-impact numbers the City of Greenville and the CVA board ask for. The accompanying sample dashboard ("Campus Calendar") and the one-page integration concept show exactly what that looks like.
